We have a Rapid Access Clinic for acute upper limb problems

The rehabilitation of patients is a vital part of recovering from upper limb surgery. The rehabilitation programme is carried out by Chartered Physiotherapists who have specialist training in orthopaedics. They provide a high quality of care using the latest techniques for mobilisation and assessment at all stages during the recovery period. We also have the benefits of a fully equipped on-site gym offering a wide range of diagnostic and exercise equipment used in the care of post-operative upper limb orthopaedic conditions. We ensure continuity of care by liaising with local physiotherapists when appropriate.

Our physiotherapists are experienced in the use of up to date and proven protocols to help patients  recover from surgery.

Physiotherapy can also be arranged at both Fulwood Hall Hospital and Renacres Hall Hospital.

Steve Shore BSc(Hons), MCSP, SRP is one of our Chartered Physiotherapists; he specialises in musculoskeletal and orthopaedic problems, using the Cyriax method of assessment and treatment. He has much experience in acute and chronic upper limb problems, including traumatic injuries due to his involvement in the sport of rugby. Steve has a great deal of experience working with the orthopaedic surgeons with regard to pre– and post-operative shoulder surgery. He uses Cybex isokinetics technology to assess the shoulder and other peripheral joint problems and also for rehabilitation. Physiotherapy is vital with upper limb surgery to reduce pain, restore movement, increase strength and prevent disability.

Sarah Booth MCSP, SRP is currently employed as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist. She qualified in 1981 and worked for five years in the Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale Trust before taking up a senior post at the Royal Albert Edward Infirmary. An initial interest in the treatment of hand injury patients presenting from the mills of Burnley and Nelson led to further post graduate training in this field. Knowledge of management of the hand injured in sport was gained through six years working with division one and county level rugby union. Work on the development of the Hand Injury Service over the past few years has involved working closely with a number of both plastic and orthopaedic hand surgeons.
