Mr Peter Hughes BSc(Hons) MBChB FRCS(Tr&Orth)

Mr Peter Hughes is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery of the shoulder and elbow. He trained in orthopaedics in the Mersey region and then completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship in Sydney, Australia. He has a special interest in the application of arthroscopic techniques to the treatment of shoulder conditions. He is an active researcher and has won several international research prizes which include Best Research Prize at the International Congress of Shoulder Surgery [Sydney 1997] and Best Paper Prize, Asian Shoulder Society. His research activity has continued as a consultant and in 2007 he was awarded Best Research Poster Prize by the British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Mr Hughes holds a Consultant post as an upper limb surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has also been elected as a member of the European Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has served as a committe member of the the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Research Sub-committee for 4 years. He is current President and former Secretary of the North West Upper Limb Group. He is Medical Officer and Orthopaedic Surgeon to the R&A.
Dr Syed Irshad Ali MBChB, MRCP, DMRD, FRCR
Dr Syed Ali is a Consultant Radiologist at the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust who specialises in soft tissue and musculoskeletal radiology. He graduated from the Liverpool University Medical School in 1989. Further training included a sabbatical to the University of Southern California in San Diego, where he learnt new techniques in musculoskeletal imaging with the world authority on the subject, Prof. Donald Resnick. Dr Ali has introduced musculoskeletal ultrasound, MR and CT arthrography and image guided therapeutic injections and biopsies. He is experienced with the imaging of sports injuries and has provided diagnostic imaging support for local football and rugby clubs, national athletics and international rugby players. He has given lectures on musculoskeletal imaging and continues to be actively involved with audit and research.
Dr Temperley MB BCh, BAO, MRCPI, FRCR
Dr David Temperley is a Consultant Radiologist at Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust. He qualified from Trinity College, Dublin in 1984 and trained in Radiology in Manchester. Dr Temperley specialises in musculoskeletal radiology and provides radiological services to Wrightington Hospital and in particular has a large practice in upper limb radiology . He has introduced musculoskeletal ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging, MR arthrography and ultrasound guided interventional procedures into Wigan and Wrightington Hospitals. He provides imaging support for investigation and treatment of upper limb sports injuries.
