Mr Peter Hughes BSc FRCS(Orth)
Mr
Peter Hughes is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery
of the shoulder and elbow. He trained in orthopaedics in the Mersey region
and then completed a shoulder and elbow fellowship in Sydney, Australia.
He has a special interest in the application of arthroscopic techniques to
the treatment of shoulder conditions. He is an active researcher and has
won several international research prizes which include Best Research
Prize at the International Congress of Shoulder Surgery [Sydney 1997] and Best Paper
Prize, Asian Shoulder Society. His research activity has continued as a
consultant and in 2007 he was awarded Best Research Poster Prize by the
British Elbow and Shoulder Society. Mr Hughes holds a Consultant post as an
upper limb surgeon at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and is a
member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society. He has also been elected
as a member of the European Shoulder and
Elbow Society.
Mr Stephen Bale BSc FRCS(Orth)
Mr
Stephen Bale is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in surgery
of the shoulder. He trained in orthopaedics in Manchester holding posts of
tutor and lecturer with the University Department of Orthopaedics. He
holds the Sir Harry Platt Research Honour. He has a special interest in
upper limb surgery particularly in relation to the shoulder. He has
travelled widely in Europe and the USA to exchange ideas on techniques
relating to all aspects of shoulder surgery. His particular interests are
rotator cuff surgery, instability and shoulder arthroplasty. He continues
to be actively involved in research.
Mr Daniel Redfern FRCS(Orth)
Born
and bred in nearby Rivington village, Daniel Redfern qualified from Barts’
Hospital in 1988 after graduation at Oriel College, Oxford. His training
continued in London at St Mary’s Hospital, the Royal Postgraduate Medical
School Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital. Winner of the
prestigious Laming Evans Fellowship of the Royal college of Surgeons, his
Upper Limb training was completed as a fellow at the Wrightington Hospital
before returning to the North West in 1999. His major interests are in
elbow, wrist and hand surgery. He has published and presented nationally
and internationally in these fields and is a faculty teacher in wrist and
elbow arthroscopy at the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Mr A O Browne M.Ch., FRCSI
Mr
Tony Browne qualified from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin in
1975. He undertook fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery at Columbia
University, New York, in sports medicine at Centinella Hospital in Los
Angeles and in hip surgery later at the Mayo Clinic in Switzerland, where
his qualifications in Orthopaedic biomechanics facilitated in dept.
research into shoulder function, and he has numerous publications on the
subject. He has received a number of awards including the Gussy Mehigan
Memorial Scholarship, Irish American Orthopaedic Society Scholarship and
Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College of Surgeons. He has designed
instruments currently in used in shoulder surgery throughout the world and
is a member of the British Shoulder and Elbow Society
Mr R Murali FRCS Ed. FRCS(Tr & Orth)
Mr
Raj Murali is an orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in all
aspects of hand and wrist surgery. He trained in the University of
Aberdeen as a lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery. He undertook hand surgery
training in Nottingham and Derby. He holds a consultant post at the
Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Trust and has sessions at Wrightington
Hospital, Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary. He set up the
hand trauma service at the Royal Albert Edward site. He is an active
researcher and is presently the Clinical Director for Research and
Development of the Trust.
